You need to chose two color combinations from the selection below and then edit your theme style. You can do this as many times as you wish until you find a combination you like. It only takes a few minutes to do this and the step by step guide is in the documentation.

Within the DIY Realtor rental package for landlords there is a feature to show a calendar of bookings so potential guests can see if their required days are available. New entries can easily be added and only take a couple of minutes.

To create a new entry in the availability calendar just add a new post and and complete the section with the heading Event Editor. You can put anything in the post title and contents, however, it probably pays to be consistent. Perhaps just put Unavailable in the title and then a simple sentence such as The property is unavailable from xxxxx to xxxxx.

Click the + icon as highlighted below to add the event. Select the beginning and end dates and no need to worry about the time because you also will check the All Day box making it, as the name suggests, an all day booking.

You then complete and save the post as you would any other ones. The category automatically defaults to Availability and it is not necessary to change this. The dates then appear as a different color in the calendar and when you click on a date with a book, the relevant post is opened for the visitor to see.

In terms of availability, you need to make the end date, the last full day, not the day the guest checks out. This means the day of checkout is then available for another booking. Like any post, if you make an error you can always edit or delete it if the guest changes the booking or cancels.

A link to the interactive Google Maps is an easy feature to add to your website. Of course you can just put the address is you wish and people can then find it themselves or you can spend a few minutes adding the map and making it easy for the website visitors to see it.

Firstly you will need to go to Google Maps and put in the address of your property. Zoom in until you are comfortable with the level of detail on the map. It’s a good idea to not zoom in too far so people can see the general vicinity whilst still seeing the street. Then click the Link button towards the top right of the screen and then the Customize and preview embed map link. This is necessary to get the correct dimensions for the page. Change the size to Custom and use the width 640 and the height 500. Then copy the HTML code at the bottom of the page.

Once you have the Google code copied to your clipboard, go back to the edit page in the DIY Realtor administration area and click the tab to change from the Visual editor to the HTML editor. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand HTML code, just move the cursor to the end of the text and paste the Google code you copied to the clipboard.

You can then click the Visual tab and the map should appear. You can also preview the changes using the Preview Changes button towards the top right of the screen. This will open the page in a new window.

If all is well the click the Update Page button and you should have successfully updated the map.

After you have selected a page to edit the screen looks like a new page screen, it just has all the fields populated with the existing data. You are able to change any of the data.

Whilst the titles can be changed, it’s not advisable to do this because it also changed the menu item. Those titles have been selected because they are generally accepted link titles to common pages across the majority of websites.

Other parts of the page can be edited as necessary and you can then preview the changes or update the page. Previewing the post always opens in a new window so don’t worry about losing your changes.

To edit a photo or delete it, click the photo once then choose from the two icons that appear in the top left of the photo. Clicking the edit icon then opens a popup where you can change the attributes.

Pages shouldn’t be deleted as, once again, they are the types of things people look for on websites. If you don’t have a price the just put that it is negotiable. The overview also appears on the home page so spend some time thinking how best to describe your property and highlight the things you think that people will look for or find appealing.

To cancel the changes click a link such as the Dashboard and a warning message is displayed that if you then click OK, all changes will be canceled. Click cancel to return back to the edit page.

To accept all the changes click the Update Page button on the right of the screen.

In following the DIY Realtor philosophy that things should be simple, you see that there are not a lot of pages of documentation. WordPress as a publishing platform was chosen because of its simplicity and ease of use. Sure, you will see a lot of functions on there there are not used and can be ignored. Just using the basic ones gives enough detail for a powerful, yet simple to maintain single property website.

On the pages that are explained, if a field isn’t mentioned then it doesn’t need to be completed. It’s a simple as that.
